should also be a senior and junior Assistant Engineer kr. Jaffè. For the former post I should be glad if a suitable201 candidate could be selected and sent out at an early date. I enclose a paper of particulars from which you will see that the salary has been fixed at £500 a year and that, whilst required to reside on the work, he will be provided with free partly furnished quarters. When required to reside in Victoria, he must find his
own quarters. For the latter post Mr. Chatham recommends the transfer of Mr. E. Newhouse from the Survey Branch. The training of Mr. Newhouse has been in the Engineering branch rather than in that of surveying, and he was formerly engaged on Water Works Schemes in England. He will draw salary as a Second Grade Assist- -ant Engineer, namely, £360 £450 and £40 duty pay. He is un- -married and it is very desirable that the Engineer to be sent out should also be single as I propose that, generally speaking, both of them should live in a house, which already exists, close to the work at Tytam Tuk and which will be provided with all
necessary heavy furniture.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble servant,
Cland Severn
Officer Administering the Government
